Every Yemen Ibex coffee is named for a place or tradition in Yemen, the country where coffee was first grown and brewed. These are highland names: terraced slopes, stone villages, mountain passes above the mist. Here is what each one means, and the roast that carries it.
Haraaz: the Haraz mountains
West of Sana'a, the Haraz rise in stone terraces, village above village, with coffee trees set into the steps of the slope. Mist climbs the valleys in the morning and clears by noon to sharp light on the ridges. It is some of the most storied coffee country in Yemen.
The roast: a bright, balanced medium with dried orange, berry and chocolate. Single origin, Medellín, Colombia. Shop Haraaz →
Khawlan: the high north
Khawlan is high country in Yemen's north, where coffee has been grown on terraced slopes for centuries. Cool nights, dry stone walls, slow seasons. The terraces follow the contour of the mountain, and the trees outlast the hands that planted them.
The roast: a smooth medium with cocoa notes. Single origin, Santos, Brazil. It works as drip or espresso. Shop Khawlan →
Yafi Dark: the mountains of Yafa'
Yafa' is the mountain country of Yemen's south: steep ridges, narrow terraces, and stone tower-houses built at the edge of the drop. Hard ground, thin air, proud people.
The roast: our darkest, an Arabica and Robusta espresso blend with a heavy body and a dark café finish. Shop Yafi Dark →
Ismaili: an heirloom name
Ismaili is one of the old names Yemeni growers give their heirloom coffee, passed down on the same mountain terraces for generations. It is a name for something that stays the same.
The roast: our breakfast blend, a smooth South American medium that tastes the same every morning. Shop Ismaili →
Matari Dark: Bani Matar
The highlands of Bani Matar, west of Sana'a, sit high among bare peaks and stone-walled fields. They gave the world Mattari, for centuries one of the names people meant when they said Yemeni coffee.
The roast: a bold, rich dark roast blended from Central American coffees. Shop Matari Dark →
